This is one of those simple, cheap things that has the immense power to improve the lives of the world's poorest.
They're not to shabby at making some amazing lettuce and tomatoes and reducing the ecological damage done by the average westerner, either.
So what's so special about them?
They allow growers to escape the ravages of the extreme wet and dry fluctuations that take place across some of the world, they store a large amount of rich soil that won't be washed away, they warm up the soil to extend the growing season, and raised bed gardens offer a means to grow organic, healthy food in city environments or over polluted soil.
