Mail order
fruit purchases are a treat for the hungry raw
foodist.
Tired of the usual bananas and oranges? There are
dozens of companies who will furnish you with
mangosteens, mamey sapote, jackfruit, fresh dates,
and just about anything else your heart desires.
Mail order fruit is probably not a realistic option
for your staples because the cost of shipping boosts
the price too much. For every day buying I suggest
you track down a local wholesale
distributor or farmer. As an occasional treat,
however, fruit-shipping companies can do wonders.
I've used them to track down all kinds of exotic
tropical fruit I couldn't otherwise get and
introduce myself to great new tastes.
Below you'll find a list of companies specializing
in getting large orders of fruit from the tropics to
you.
Dates
Bautista Family
Organic Dates
Many dates found in supermarkets are often
dehydrated and covered in chemicals, and probably
aren't worth your time.
Bautista Family Organic Dates is one shipper that
sells fresh dates harvested from their orchard in
Mecca, California. The quality of the ones I've
bought from them have been impressive.
You can order dates from them via their website, 7HotDates.com.
The Date People
The Date People run an organic date farm in
Niland, California. Although their prices are
higher than Bautista, I've gotten a lot of
high-quality dates from them over the years. Their
website is currently down, you can call them to
get the lowdown at (760) 359-3211.

Exotic Fruit
Justin's
Exotic Fruit
Justin is a friend of mine and a raw foodist who
recently got into the fruit shipping business.
He lives in Miami, Florida and buys his fruit from
the farms in the Homestead and Miami area. If
you need mamey sapote, jackfruit, apple bananas,
mangoes, lychees, or most other tropical fruit
varieties, Justin can probably help you out.
He can be reached at (305) 757-6913.
Jourdan's
Beautiful Food
Jourdan Gray sells
a wide variety of tropical produce he purchases
from local farmers in the Miami/Homestead area
of Florida.
