My health problems started early in life…

By fourth grade I was already overweight, and it only got worse from there. 



I got heavier every year until my 5’11 frame maxed out at 220 pounds when I was 17 years old. 



I was convinced I was defective, and that I had inherited some genetic curse dooming me to be fat while everyone around me, eating similar foods, remained fairly slim. 



I was mocked for my weight, and I increasingly became more self conscious about it. I started stooping my shoulders, hunching in an effort to hide my body from the world - it didn’t work. I was fat, and obviously so. 



I was trapped by the belief that I was powerless in my own life, and that nothing I could do would alter my situation.


But that wasn't my only problem…

Starting in middle school I suffered from intestinal problems that got worse like constipation and gas... soon blood and pus started showing up in my stools. I knew there was something wrong with me... but I didn’t tell my doctor about it. 

Researching my symptoms, I found out that I had colitis.

I knew that I needed to take drastic measures.

I started keeping detailed food journals of everything I ate and experimented with cutting certain foods out of my diet to see what would improve things. After reading about a connection between grains and various bowel problems, I removed all starches and grains from my diet and in under two weeks my symptoms started to disappear.

When I saw a doctor for a diagnosis… the doctor said there was no known cure for colitis, but that drugs, which I’d probably be on for the rest of my life, could help with some of the symptoms. 

When I tried to explain to the doctor that I’d been able to get rid of all my symptoms by eliminating grains, starches and other foods, he brushed it off and said that sometimes intestinal problems go into remission, but there was no connection to diet.

This really pissed me off, and I left without scheduling a follow-up appointment with a specialist. I decided that I was going to beat this problem, and I was going to do it my way.
