Building A Raw-Friendly World: Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram August 19, 2011 |
Building A Raw-Friendly World: Kristina Carrillo-BucaramRaw foodists sometimes complain that although their diet has radically improved their life, there aren't a lot of other raw foodists to spend time with, most businesses are set up to cater to the needs of cooked food eaters, and organic produce is expensive. If we don't personally start improving our local community, however, these problems will never get any better. One raw foodist who has undoubtedly made a huge impact in her home of Houston, Texas, is Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram. Kristina founded the Rawfully Organic Co-Op in 2007, and it's since grown to 3,800 members. Not only have her efforts helped to educate hundreds of people about the benefits of a healthy raw food diet, but the organization provides members with locally-grown organic fruits and vegetables at prices 30 percent below what you'd pay at the supermarket. The co-op has also funneled several million dollars to the small organic farmers who provide the food. Read more about how Kristina is changing Houston in this interview.
