Organic Fruit Or None At All?

Theresa's Question:On the low fat raw food diet if one is unable to locate organic fruits such as durian, watermelon or thai coconuts would it be safer to not eat them at all rather than eat fruit that has not been grown organically?
Andrew's Answer: Although organic is certainly best for our health and the earth, I do not eat an entirely organic diet. If, for reasons of selection or cost, you are unable to get an organic fruit, the nonorganic alternative won't kill you. There are some fruits and vegetables which are particularly high in harmful chemicals that you may wish to avoid. A google search of "The dirty dozen foods" should give you a start in researching these.
Many people who are not raw and who are not eating anywhere near a cooked organic diet email me with concerns over the chemicals in fruit and vegetables when they're considering a switch.
Besides the fact that produce is considerably lower in harmful chemicals than animal foods, the act of switching over to a low fat diet of raw fruits and vegetables will most likely so significantly improve your health that you'll end up better for it, organic or conventional.
