Switching From A Raw Diet To A Standard American Diet

If you've been eating a healthy low fat raw vegan diet for awhile, how much will going back to the standard American diet affect you?
You definitely will notice the difference, and probably won't feel too great. Here's how one woman described the experience.
Angela's Experience With Dietary Backsliding:
Hi Andrew,
I wrote you a while ago asking about meat and potato cravings on a raw food diet. I also told you I lost 10 kilos eating that way.
I went back to my standard diet a few weeks ago and the weight came back immediately along with my hay fever, eczema, allergies, back pain, etc.

On the raw food diet all these symptoms had gone away.
I am now back on my raw diet and I am starting to feel better again.
Everybody who doesn't believe that a standard diet causes all these symptoms should try a
raw food diet for only two weeks and then go back to their regular diet.
They will be surprised.

Andrew's Thoughts:Hi Angela.
For many people, the change between a healthy low fat raw vegan diet and a SAD diet can be profound, and backsliding to cooked foods often leaves them feeling horrible.
While
fat loss tends to be quick on a raw diet, keep in mind that it's only one factor in your total weight.
Generally, people on SAD diets are carrying around a considerable amount of water weight due to their consumption of
salt and other toxins.
When you start eating a healthy raw diet and cut out these harmful substances, the body starts to release the water weight rapidly.
I imagine that a considerable amount of the 10 kilos you regained was just water weight, and you'll lose it again quickly.
Although you may be kicking yourself at this time for your food choices over the last few weeks, think of it as a good learning experience.
Sometimes our worst choices can highlight just how great the status quo is.
