Ulcerative Colitis Pain
by Kevin
(Barnsley, UK)
Kevin's Question: I've been raw for 5 days now (the first three being a raw juice fast). My bowel movements are very normal but I'm still experiencing fatigue and discomfort which seems to originate in my abdomen. I stopped taking medication & just wondered whether you experienced pain and discomfort and for how long?
Andrew's Answer: I experienced some abdominal pain when my colitis was causing problems, but that pain gradually faded away when I went raw. It was several months before I was completely pain/colitis symptom free, but I saw major improvements within the first several weeks.
As to your fatigue: One of the frequently overlooked parts of healing is the need for sleep
During this healing phase I'd suggest you go out of your way to get as much sleep as possible. Ten hours a night or more, if you can manage it, will lead to a much quicker recovery.
Another aspect is fuel for the body in the form of calories. As your intestines heal and you can handle more food, make sure you quickly up the amount of calories you take in until you're eating
enough calories to maintain weight and prevent cravings.
