Will Peruvian Maca Root Cure My Thyroid Disorder?

Sefanie's Question:Hello! I was wondering what your thoughts are on Peruvian Maca Root. I have Hashimotos/thyroid disorder and have been investigating alternative forms to help treat this and get rid of the nasty side effects of the disease.
I came across a lot of material that cites the great effects Peruvian Maca Root can have on the endocrine system. I am pursuing a raw food diet (but just starting!) but also looking for ways to speed my recovery. I am very interested in any feedback or thoughts you have on supplementing with a Peruvian Maca Root (Powder).
Thanks!
Stefanie
Andrew's Answer:Hi Sefanie.
Unfortunately, the medical and alternative medical models have convinced many that things - drugs, supplements, vitamins, super foods, or some bizarre extract - can cure them of them of their ills.
The truth is that only the body can heal itself. The ultimate diet, then, does not heal, but merely provides the most nutritious foods with the least toxic load.
When we try addressing diseases with superfoods and supplements,
we often end up more sick than when we started.
I know nothing about your condition, but it's likely that the fix you're looking for can best be achieved by moving your body and mind toward an optimal state for healing by adopting a
raw food diet and a
good lifestyle.
When we stop looking for magic bullets and quick fixes, the path becomes a lot more clear.
